Pretty Little Things: Backpacks!
It's back to school season! This is particularly exciting for me, not just because I'm moving to New York City next week, but also because I'm obsessed with organization (stationary, planners, office supplies, you name it)! Getting a new backpack is always a really fun activity because it's not really as simple as just picking a cute one at the first place you look. You have to really consider a lot of factors, like whether it will fit all your things (and for most of us college students, if it's big enough for your laptop), whether it'll look nice with every outfit you wear, whether the material is durable and/or waterproof, etc. Earlier this year, I got this lovely Fjällräven Känken in Frost Green/Pink Peach. I wanted to be able to use it for school, to take it when I go hiking - especially on longer hikes, and to bring to music festivals. Therefore, I needed my backpack to: have space for two water bottles, fit my 13" Macbook Pro, be waterproof, and it needed to be big enough that I could fit up to 6 notebooks in it - since I am an avid handwritten notetaker, but more on that on another post! I'm also in love with the pink and green color combo. That used to be my favorite color combination when I was in elementary school and green is still my favorite color now, so it was a nice little throwback.
Anyway, I put together a nice little selection of my favorite backpacks this season, all under $100, because I know how important it is to find an affordable backpack.
From left to right, top to bottom: Ribstop from Baggu // Vegan Leather Backpack // Baggu Grid Backpack // Target Pink Polka Dot // Fjällräven Känken in Ochre // Herschel Dawson // Lola Perforated White // Kane Backpack (this one reminds me of a spaceship) // Sole Society Faux Leather
And finally: a floral one, an army green one, and a simple pink one that didn't fit on the picture.
I have a couple more Back To School posts I'll be sharing in the next week. Have a lovely day!

Albion Community Events + Fitness Fashion
I fell in love with Albion Fit in 2014, when I got a membership at Xtend Barre in Provo, and during one of my very first classes I had an instructor who wore their petal pants. I remember asking her where she got them and soon after making my first trip to the little Albion store, tucked away by the Kneaders at City Creek. I didn't end up getting those pretty pants though, instead I walked out with a new tank, one that I still wear today, so that'll tell you something about the quality of their products. I later ended up getting a sports bra and THE MOST FLATTERING swimsuit I have ever worn in my life. I always, without fail, get compliments on it when I wear it. It's black with little flamingos on it and it's out of stock right now, since it was from last summer's collection, but this one is a very similar cut.
Besides their quality materials and cute styles, there's another reason I adore Albion Fit, and that's because of... the community events! They have a sort of little tradition of hosting free community fitness classes on most Saturday mornings (and sometimes nights) throughout the summer. I love these because 1) it feels really cool to feel like a part of something and that feeling is definitely there at these events, 2) there's free healthy food afterwards, 3) It gives me a reason to wake up at 7am on Saturday mornings and 4) it's the reason I've tried so many fitness classes I would have otherwise probably never tried out. I try to make it to every single one, although sometimes if they fall on the same day, I might go to the free Athleta classes or the 9th and 9th Pilates summer events as well, though those are very rarely free. Regardless, you'll never find me at my local gym on Saturday mornings haha.
Alright, so last week, Albion held a class with the lovely Witney Carson from Dancing With The Stars, which was particularly exciting. As you know, I loooooove dancing. However, I'm not the most skilled at it (as in, I'm always 1 step behind everyone else, but I try!) I headed over the class and it was such a blast. Afterwards, they had delicious little açai bowls for us from The Protein Foundry (pictured above!), another local business. I'm definitely going to be hitting up their restaurant before I move to New York! And, the highlight of the morning was when I ended up winning a $50 gift card during the giveaway. I compiled some of my favorite things from Albion right now and I'm going to head over the store later this week to pick one out!

What I'm Making: Archer Blouse
Technically, the title should have been "What I Made," because I actually finished this blouse several months ago in January during a really productive 3 week period when I decisively worked on several of the half-finished projects I had set aside throughout the last year. This blouse was almost a year in the making, as embarrassing as it is to admit that. It's not even a shirt I would actually select if I had to pick just ten shirts out of my closet. I've only worn it twice, and I knew when I was working on finishing it that it wasn't really my style, but I guess I felt like I needed to finish it just because I didn't want it to lay around useless and unwearable. It was also really fun to make! Then, we took pictures of me wearing it circa February, but I couldn't bring myself to post them because I didn't feel confident. This past winter was very rough and particularly stressful, so I inevitably reached highest weight and since the pictures weren't exactly to my liking there was no real rush, I decided to wait and take better ones. I'll go into more detail about that in my next playlist post - which is coming up next week or the week after. Anyway, I did eventually want to show you guys and so last Thursday I put on my bell bottoms and we went to take pictures by a cute little hedge on the side of the road.

the exciting news
Alright friends, so at this I'm pretty much positive you all already know but if you didn't already know, I got accepted to the Fashion Institute of Technology for Fashion Design!!!! I've been super excited about it, planning away, thinking of things I need to see in New York City and friends I will definitely meet up with. I've also started forming a mental list of all the concerts I want to attend there, which is probably not the smartest idea because if I could, I would spend every last penny on music. Anyway, so I'm moving August 26th! It was originally supposed to be the 20th, but then the Twilight Concert Series was announced and my girl Grimes is playing on the 25th... I wasn't about to miss that lmao. But irl friends, we should definitely meet up before I leave!
I'm thinking I'll make a long post about my portfolio and the application process pretty soon because when I was starting the process I honestly could not find a lot of resources from current students and it was definitely stressful to feel like I didn't know what I was doing. I might also make a video because I actually found the few videos I did find on youtube were the most informative. Maybe I'll just start a series on FIT when the school year comes around.
Fashion Industry Studies: Cactus Twig Necklace
So as you guys might know, I've been working on and off on my Fashion Industry Studies course from Teen Vogue and Parsons School of Design. I don't actually have that much time left to finish it, so I've been working on it more than usual lately. Anyway, the other day my assignment was to create an accessory using things I had on hand and inspired by a collage of pictures I took off inspiring things directly around me, which I'll show you below.
For this project, I was particularly inspired by the cactus pictures, the lace, and the color of that lovely mint candle. For my found materials I used kitchen twine, a plastic grocery bag, acrylic paint, lollipop sticks, staples, and glue. The flower was definitely my favorite part because I just got to sit there and figure out how to make something beautiful out of something so terribly ordinary and I loved painting it.
For the second part of this project, my assignment was to figure out how much it essentially cost to make by hand vs. bulk production. I definitely expected bulk to be much cheaper, and I was right about that. The first graph below is the cost of it made by hand and using materials I had:
This other graph shows the cost of production if I were to buy materials in bulk and have it mass produced:

Autumnal Photo Shoot
And just like that, my blog is back from the dead! Hi friends, followers, acquaintances. I haven’t truly used this blog as I originally intended since May, unless you count my post about meeting Taylor, which I don’t. Mostly because it was copied directly from my fangirl tumblr. Anyway! I spent the entire summer working on my portfolio for my FIT application. Well, not entirely. I mean, I also spent a great deal of time working on sewing techniques, working on personal projects.. and I got a cat. My little Daisy Maire, my siamese baby cat. I’m actually still not done with my portfolio, but I’m almost done. Like I could probably finish in a week if I really wanted to, but then I'd have to lock myself in my room and be productive ALL DAY. and I'd have to stop showing up to school and work, and we can't have that.
I also started my first class of the Fashion Industry Studies certificate program that Teen Vogue is doing in partnership with Parsons School of Design!! I started on the 15th of October and it’s an 8 week program, I believe. I’ve been having so much fun with it! For one of my assignments, I had to make a mood board on Pinterest and then style an outfit and photo shoot based on the mood board. That’s actually what this post is about! I chose pictures that were laden with plaids and simple solids, simple center compositions, short dresses, brick walls, etc. My mood board is very seasonal and classy, hence the name Upscale Autumnal. I love the look of a plaid dress with simple black tights.
It’s incredibly classy. So yesterday, when Hannah and I went to Salt Lake City in search of the book mural, which we did find.. I also took some quick pictures of her against the wall next to it, which was actually better for the outfit pictures. The simplicity of the brick wall helps the outfit stand out even more, I think! And of course, Hannah has gorgeous red hair which, contrasted against the red of the dress, gives the outfit even more dimension. Honestly, red heads can wear just about anything and look sophisticated.
Alright, so I’ve been fascinated by the Fashion Industry Studies program, and I absolutely loved taking pictures yesterday! I’ll need to take more soon, so if any of you locals are willing, I’d be so happy to have you model for my assignments!
Have a lovely Sunday!

Met Gala 2015
Hi, so right now, as I'm typing this, I'll probably fall asleep. It's not because I don't care, I mean I really do. I love the Met Gala. I look forward to it every year. The thing is.. I came down with a cold, I have two jobs, I'm spending like three hours a day cooking for the sake of eating healthy, and then I'm also trying to be productive and work on projects. Plus Taylor Swift just started her world tour and you know I had to be aware of all the details. It's exhausting. And guess what? I got another job. But don't worry, that doesn't start until the end of June. I'm actually going to have a whole three weeks of no work except on Tuesdays in June. It's gonna be exciting. I'm gonna spend it making art. As for right now, I'm going to have to make do with late-night blogging. Onto the actual topic.
The Met Gala was yesterday. The theme was China: Through the Looking Glass, which was actually a really interesting theme. Last year's theme was pretty bold too. It's always exciting to see who will follow the theme and who won't, and if they do, what they'll wear and how they'll incorporate it. I got home from work at 3:45pm yesterday and the first thing I did was get online to see the beautiful pictures and decide which looks I liked best. I'm just going to talk about a few of my favorites right now!
from top left: Diane Kruger in Chanel, Poppy Delevigne in Marchesa, Anna Ewers in Balenciaga, Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan Atelier
Of those four, my absolute favorite has to be Diane Kruger's two-piece ensemble. I mean... those pants. They're flawless with the sheer lacy fabric, and it's just nice to see someone in pants at the Met Gala. Her look is just so effortlessly beautiful. My second favorite would have to be Anna Ewers in Balenciaga. I love the skirt of her dress, and how that's sheer too. She looks like a dancer in that dress. Her crown is very delicate and feminine too.
from top left: Wendi Murdoch in Oscar De La Renta, Kate Hudson in Michael Kors, Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy Haute Couture, and Gabrielle Union in Kimberly McDonald
Of these lovely looks, Kate Hudson's was my favorite. I just love the simplicity of a sparkly, gold dress.
Finally, I decided to narrow it down to my top four favorites and that was a huge struggle because I actually have at least a dozen top favorites. Some of the ones I absolutely adore but didn't include in this post (because I mean I don't want you to feel like this is ginormous novel of a post) are Lorde, Anna Wintour, Vanessa Hudgens, Allison Williams, and Alison Brie.
In my opinion, the most gorgeous look of the night had to be Rihanna in her stunning yellow gown. I mean if you haven't see that train, you have to scroll down right now. She was wearing Guo Pei.
Amal Clooney was wearing an equally beautiful gown, although less extravagant. She was wearing Maison Margiela. I love the ruffles on her dress and the different textures between the bodice of her dress and the skirt layers. Also, the deep red hue was a favorite of mine. And can we talk about her hair for a second? Oh my god, those perfect waves.
I was actually looking forward to seeing what Kendal Jenner would be wearing. I saw the sneak peek on instagram and I got really excited because green is my favorite color, as you know, and I wasn't sure what the strings would look like on the dress. When I think of strings, I tend to imagine an outfit with a very boho, beachy vibe so it was quite the plot twist to see what the dress actually looked like. It's definitely a favorite of mine from this year's Met Gala. It's Calvin Klein Collection, by the way.
Finally, I love the very regal look that Brie Larson, Courtney Eaton, and Annabelle Wallis were sporting. One of the things I love most about fashion is when designers go all out, very heavy with gold and jewels as well as with references to art history in their work. I feel like these Dolce and Gabbana looks exemplify this sort of style. The classic cuts of the dresses are also stunning, along with those headpieces. These ladies look like a dream. They look like what I think of when I think of the Met Gala.
Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope it's okay that I'll be posting so late! Have a lovely Wednesday tomorrow. :)

Lilly x Target
Lilly Pulitzer doesn't exactly fit with my personal style, well regularly. I mean usually, you'll find me in muted pinks and darker greens, and lots of black and ivory, and cream, and white. It's more simplistic and toned down... BUT I make an exception for Lilly, because lets be honest, how could I not? There's something so wonderful and whimsical about intensely bright florals and the classic A-line shift. It's romantic and old-timey. It makes me want to live in a small town on the east coast. It makes me want to spend a day at the beach, or maybe just sip lemonade or sweet tea on a porch with my favorite people. There's just something so classic in the concept. So when Target announced their collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer, my heart skipped a beat and as I tend to do when things get exciting, I told everyone who talked to me that day.
The interesting thing, though, is that I feel like the majority of the people I know who love Lilly Pulitzer and all things preppy were mad over the fact there would be a Lilly collection at Target. Their arguments were kind of silly, but I mean I do understand why someone would be mad that they saved up for a long time just to get a dress, only to have a similar one end up at Target for a fraction of the price they paid. Still, the pros outweigh the cons. And it's not like this is the first time Target is collaborating with a high-end brand. Frankly, I'm thrilled.
The collection will be out on April 19th, a Sunday! I've heard it's supposed to have 250+ pieces, including women's clothing (obviously), children's clothing, accessories, dinnerware, and cosmetics with L'Oreal and Essie. And the prices are supposed to range from $2-$250.
What do you think? Are you excited about Lilly x Target?
All the pictures are from the Target Look Book, by the way.

Lets Talk About New York
I have a little green moleskin full of thoughts I wrote down in new york, some complete and other incomplete and frankly, confusing. Yet, that was the best decision I ever made and I’m going to go off of them as I’m writing this blog post. Let me just begin by saying that New York was amazing, but also confusing, and also frantic, and also... magic. Looking back, I had all sorts of expectations for the city, all sorts of fantastical, flawless ideas about how it was and what it should feel like, which was a bit of a mistake on my part, but also not. I wanted it to feel like it felt when I went to Nashville, like home, like a safe haven of sorts. The reality is that they’re right when they talk about its gritty nature, and to be honest, it’s larger than life, which is a bit intimidating at first. At the core of my fantasies, what I wanted the most out of New York, was a sense of purpose and self-worth. I wanted to go to Fashion U, I wanted to go to FIT, I wanted to roam the streets and affirm that being there is what I wanted above all, to just reassure myself that I could be someone if I just try hard enough. I wanted a reality check and not a glance inside a rose-tinted window. In the end, I got just that. The reality check, I mean.
The trip was very hot and cold, up and down to me. It wasn’t like my friends had told me, or like bloggers recalled in their posts. From the very moment I stepped inside that apartment, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, it was going to be stressful and difficult and busy and crowded, but it was also going to be rewarding. I’ll always remember it as the trip that changed my perspective, as romantic as that sounds. I survived the busy streets, I survived the adventure. I got yelled at, badly. I laughed with these wonderful girls at midnight and all other times of the day. I got lost, multiple times. I got locked out, lost something very important, forgot things, waited in line in the pouring rain. Everything. My god, everything happened. I have stories of the wildest sorts, maybe just for me?? But one day, I’ll look back and remember what it felt like to think that I can’t ever belong, to feel so isolated, despite the hoards of people around me, and then compare it to the third day, to my next trip, to the rest of my life? Did you know, I cried twice on my first day there. Once when I arrived and I couldn’t convince myself to walk outside into the land of tall buildings and crowds upon crowds of people. I was scared and alone, literally. The second was at night, upon arriving at the apartment for the evening, my feet sore, my socks damp. I collapsed onto the floor, a mess of tears and confusion and loneliness. But I called my mom, I played the playlist, I talked to old friends. And you know, I lived. I learned. I went two days without getting lost after that.
And the buildings, they’re grandiose and beautiful. They terrified me and then they amazed me. The antique brick, the brightly-colored murals, the advertisements. All of it. It’s sloppy and messy and structured and full of history. And the museums, they’re something. Those are the safe havens within the city, at least for me. I remember when I finally chanced upon the MoMA, after wandering for three hours and I could have sat down, but never in the almost 4 hours I spent there, did I ever rest. And I forgot my feet hurt, because it was everything I had always wanted to know. There’s something about art that makes my heart stir, that makes me feel like I should be fantastic at something, that makes me want to embrace everyone who has ever even uttered a word to me. When I live in New York, I will get a membership there.
And the Met, I went there with my old friend Hillary. I’ve known her on tumblr since I was 13 -- 6 years ago. And we finally met for the first time and we took a polaroid selfie, my first one ever. But the museum was beautiful. All these pieces that I remember learning about in my art history class were there and I felt... accomplished. I don’t know why. My favorite was the Lamasu. In fact, I went around showing everyone the pictures I took of the Lamasu after that because one of my favorite units in art history was the Assyrian unit and it’s just exciting, you know? And I fell in love with Soho that evening. I fell in love with Lexington avenue first and then Soho, because it felt like what I thought New York would be like and for a moment I felt sure because I knew that even if all of New York wasn’t how I imagined and I never quite figured out which direction I was walking in, I was right about something.
And I’ll have you know, I’m not as forgetful as everyone decided. Which brings me to the last thing I wanted to talk about. Fashion U. If you were ever on the fence about applying to Fashion U or accepting, just go, I promise it’s a good idea. I swear it. I mean, I know a lot of the friends I met there were saying there was less swag this year, but I still feel like I learned. But more than that, it was inspiring to sit there and listen to these people who tentatively entered the industry only to come out these exemplary leaders. Nobody starts off perfectly, nobody goes in being flawless at everything, but with hard work and practice and years, they made it. I know I can too. i just have to make my way to New York, and I will. I’m working on it. I feel like I should go into detail, but I don’t want to be boring either, in case you don’t really care. I don’t know.
On Friday, there was an event at Express. It was so serendipitous how I ended up in line right before my friend Caitlin from the facebook group. Either way we would have met up at the event, but fatefully so we ended up meeting at the start. The event in itself was exciting. I made it a point to try every kind of food or drink they had even if I thought I would hate it, and I did. The weirdest thing was the creamed apple, which tasted like brie and had the consistency of pudding. The tiny hamburger was a close second. The best was the hibiscus mocktail and the fancy oreos. And we got these lovely little metallic tattoo bracelets, which took three showers to erase and even then, my wrist was still slightly sparkly. The music was the best though! Chelsea Leyland was the dj, which was something I was excited about. She really is that flawless at her job.
On Saturday, we had classes at the Conde Nast building, which is at One World Trade Center. It was also raining like mad when we woke up and it continued throughout the rain. Would it be weird if I tell you I think New York is more beautiful when it’s raining? When we got there, the line was huge and they gave us our credentials and the schedule sticker. We also got our swag bags in the first class. I loved that one of my roommates, Betty, and Caitlin were in Group B Fashion/Styling Major with me, cause things are always better with friends. And it felt easier to go back and grab that amazing Cinderella chocolate over and over again since I wasn’t alone haha. No really, I ate so much of that. And they had a gorgeous black gown by Zac Posen next to it and the glass slippers from the Cinderella movie as well.
As for my favorite speaker, it was Jens Grede from Frame Denim, and there’s no question about that. I feel like he offered the most advice and really went into detail. My second favorite would be Rebecca Minkoff and then the Editors panel. Oh and I got a tour of the Edit floor! That was amazing! It’s so brightly lit and you can just tell that everyone there is a creative genius. They let us go into the fashion closet as well, and you should just see the sea of shoes they have and racks upon racks of beautiful clothing. It’s unreal. And the other girls at the tour were such sweethearts. I loved getting to meet people at Fashion U, that was one of my favorite things. I love that nobody was pretentious or snobby. Everyone was just dedicated and trying to figure out how to get there, it’s nice to feel understood. Also, can I just say how much I love Andrew Bevan. I mean I love his articles in Teen Vogue, but he was so great at interviewing Rebecca Minkoff and Zac Posen and I feel like if it had been anyone else interviewing them it would have been less interesting. All of this took place is the 63rd, 64th, and 34th floors of the building by the way. On Saturday, we came in and listened to Zac Posen, which was so cool because we got to learn a little about dress construction. Then we were given our diplomas and sadly, Teen Vogue Fashion U was over.
I could go on and on about Teen Vogue and New York to be honest, but I feel like this post is a novel already. If you have any questions though, or if you want to know about my application, please email me and I’ll tell you more. Or text me. whatever works. And I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to blogging. I went from freezing New York to warm and sunny Utah and as a result, caught a really bad cold. It’s been a struggle! Thanks for your patience and thank you for reading.

Thursday Thoughts

Hey there! I've been having an exciting week! I spent it working on creative projects, mostly. I restarted and finished a dress, I went to a planning meeting for a new Girl Scouts program in our council, I made an itinerary for next week, I bought tickets to the Ed Sheeran concert, I spent a lot of time styling outfits for next week, and I still had enough time to sit and read Elle UK, which is my personal favorite magazine. On the disappointing side, I didn't win the dietbet by 0.8lbs. But I'm still proud of myself and I'm going to keep making positive changes in my diet. Everything is still absolutely wonderful, regardless of anything. And I'm going to New York in five days !!! Anyway, here are your links for the week:
- I read about this 58-year-old virgin last week and I thought it was quite the interesting story.
- $1500 and why its expensive.
- A woman's changing perspective on the purpose of keeping a journal.
- Seamwork Magazine has some beautiful patterns this month.
- The truest thing, to be honest.
- An eloquent article on the importance of fashion. P.s. I'm excited she's gonna be at TVFU next week!

Pretty Little Things // 05
1. // 2. // 3. // 4. // 5.
Hi guys! It's 10pm, so I know I'm a tiny bit late but in my defense I've had an insanely busy day and I somehow managed to cross a ton of things off my to-do list and it was fun, even though I was busy. I don't know if I can even explain it all. In short, I now have really good tickets to the Ed Sheeran show in May and 90% of the little black dress I'm making is done, so I'm fine and dandy. I also have other things I'm excited about, but those are a secret til further notice. Anyway, the point is I put together this week's graphic during my 8am class and then I forgot about it. And now I know I should comment on everything in detail, but I have a ballet midterm tomorrow at 8am, so I feel like I should be studying for that instead. I'll just say a few remarks. You know I love socks, especially with heels. So that's why I picked those lovely little socks. I also really like green, hence the weekender and the earrings and I like how fancy the earrings look too. The shirt is so simple ad subtly feminine, it feels Parisian to me. And the lip balm, well if that's not the prettiest color of lip balm you've ever seen in the most adorable packaging then you're probably wrong.
Love you!! I might be back tomorrow, but it's another busy day so we shall see!

Pretty Little Things // 04
Happy Monday! It's the start of a way busy week for me since I have exactly two weeks to finish all my homework for the next three and a half weeks. For whatever reason, my humanities teacher decided to assign a movie as homework every single day that I'm gone and I just so happen to have a big midterm paper due the Monday before I leave as well. Life is so hard. Anyway, I made a little masterpost of things I found pretty, as I always do on Mondays.
The journal, I believe would make the cutest little present to a friend who loves to write. I'd love to give it to one of of my songwriter friends. I feel like they'd appreciate it. As for the owl vase, don't tell me you don't want it. It's beautiful and whimsical and adorable with it's little ruffled collar. I think the collar makes it look sophisticated too, plus I mean it's white and gold so it would go nicely in any room. It's on sale, you know. The nail polish, on the other hand, is quite expensive. Dior's Nail Glow. I've been eyeing it for exactly one year. It's all because I saw a blog post about it last year, and she had it on and and it made her nails look such a subtle, perfect pink, so clean and classy. It's the ultimate nail polish for the spring and summer. I just have to convince myself it's worth the $27. And the shirt? It's a turtleneck. I love turtlenecks. I love that you can just tuck your hair into the neck and go on like that, looking like a supermodel. And who doesn't love black and white stripes? If I had that shirt, I'd tuck it into a pretty skirt, like the mustard one featured here, or a lovely pair of high-waisted shorts and wear it around in the spring, when it's not quite warm enough but not quite cold enough either. The lovely little skirt is a favorite of mine, mostly because I've been obsessed with shopping for floral skirts and dresses this past week. I'm just so ready for Spring, and this one caught my eye because of it's bright, bold color.
Have a wonderful day!

Happy (Almost) Valentine's Day!
Today was a thrill to say the least. Actually, last night combined with this morning was a thrill of the best kind possible. I mean last night, Taylor Swift's new music video was released at midnight, well 2am EST and I stayed up for another two hours fangirling and then this morning I was up at 4:45am, bright and early, to watch the official release on Good Morning America at the east coast time because you know I can't wait two hours for these sorts of things and then beyond that, Vogue released their March cover with Karlie and Taylor on it and this sweet little video to go along and my heart melted into a puddle of feelings because those two are just TOO cute, and I love it. And when that was happening, I was in the midst of sewing my Archer shirt, which is almost completely done.
All in all, it was an epic 15 hours, and tonight is my annual pre-valentine's day baking night, which is incredibly exciting! I'm going to be making Lavender Earl Grey cupcakes and pink frosted sugar cookies with red heart sprinkles because it's better to be festive. I might also fill raspberries with dark chocolate. Actually, I wasn't planning on that but now that I thought of it it's going to happen.
Anyway, I wanted to show you my outfit for tomorrow! Every year I dress up festively for Valentine's Day. I know in past years, I wore my diy heart sweatshirt, but it's actually not very comfortable because I made it when I was 16 and horrible at making things. Well, I didn't think I was horrible, but I was. I'm sure of that. I wore that sweatshirt two years, in 2012 and 2013. Last year, I know I dressed up festively but I don't remember exactly what I wore because I was unfortunately sick and I had my party, so the last thing on my mind was taking pictures of my outfit.
This year, since the weather is so perfect, I'm going to be wearing my short lace skirt with my lovely "My heart belongs to Mere and Olivia" sweatshirt, because if we're being honest here, my heart really does belong to Taylor Swift's cats. And I love being ironic about Valentine's Day, e.g. the cats I put on my Galentine's Day invitation last year alluding to the fact that I'm probably going to become a cat lady. And I just really love the contrast between the casual, sporty sweatshirt and the pretty, feminine little skirt and the shoes + frilly socks. I actually love those red shoes so much, I wear them year round and as I mentioned before, I love the combination of socks and heels.
You see, every year I make my plan to go to the movies the Friday before Valentine's Day and I wear my outfit that night as well, but this year I'm not doing that because I don't have an desire to go see 50 Shades of Grey, so really I don't know where I'll be wearing this outfit. I don't know if you know, but I'm a Girl Scouts troop leader on Saturday mornings, so I'm definitely going to go to that tomorrow, but I know for a fact I won't be wearing a short skirt, but I'll probably still wear everything else, but with black pants probably, or a longer skirt. Maybe I'll just go to the grocery store just to have somewhere to wear this to. I feel like I can't not. Other than that, my plans are just to stay home and watch a movie. I don't know what I'll watch either, but it'll be fun.
What I Wore: sweatshirt (Taylor Swift) // ivory lace skirt (Willow and Clay) // white lace socks (TopShop) // red heels (Kimichi Blue at UO) // NARS Luxembourg lip pencil (Sephora) // Los Angeles necklace (Kris Nations) (similar) // Better Than Sex mascara (Sephora) // Clinique 'Even Better' Makeup (Nordstrom)
Anyway, I hope you're having a lovely day and I hope tomorrow is absolutely perfect for you! Happy Love Day!

Thursday Thoughts
I spent all of yesterday between writing lesson plans and trying to find a place to stay at in New York, until eventually we went for a little bohemian place in Tribeca. It wasn't that I anticipated being as busy as I was, but the point is I'm going to make up for it by posting on Saturday as well. Anyway, it's a long weekend! I actually only have one more thing today and then there's no school tomorrow, so I really get to go all out with my annual pre-Valentines Day baking day AND I'm free for a whole weekend! It's so exciting and I don't even know what movie I'll watch this year or what exactly I'm going to make. With that said, here are some neat links:
- when you're so perfect, you get the job on the spot.
- it's inspiring to see what drives others to think creatively.
- a beautiful essay that exemplifies exactly why I can't see myself marrying for a long, long time.
- I really want to wear my hair like this, but I feel like I'd get weird looks
- how we write about love
- amfAR Gala was last night and everyone looked so gorgeous, especially Toni, Karlie, and Coco
- as it turns out, Picasso was kind of awful to his family, so now his granddaughter is selling her inheritance.
- and for the weekend, here are some cute little valentines you can print out.
So who do you think was the best dressed at amfAR? See you tomorrow!

Pretty Little Things // 03
I don't believe I've ever told you about my plate collection, but I might be wrong. The basic gist of it is that if I find a beautiful plate somewhere (not online, just in person) and it's less than $25 I have to buy it because when I grow up I want there to be a bevy of mismatched plates on my dinner table at every meal. So you can just imagine my glee when I saw these beauties on the Twig website, even though they're not in the price range. As for the cookbook, I was first drawn to that book due to the pink cover. It's so insanely gorgeous. And the recipes actually look flawless. I'm thinking I'll plan to have dinner at Prune one night when I'm in New York.
You should know, it's been so warm here lately, so much so that I've begun to wear skirts and dresses with open-toed shoes again and it's blissfully perfect. I just feel like that shirt dress is gorgeous. I mean first of all, it's Zara, so you know it's gonna be good quality and then it's green, and it's a shirt dress, and it's short, and it's only $79 which is relatively inexpensive for a dress so I mean that's perfect all around. And the shorts are just beautiful. I love high-waisted denim, and I love the lighter wash. Finally, the little candle is currently sitting sitting atop my stack of journals because it's my favorite of the moment. You should get one.
by the way, my cat shirt came and it's every bit as perfect as I had imagined. Have a lovely Monday!

Peplum Shirt in Rust
I've been having a little bit of a difficult day, hence why it took me so long to put up this post. It's not that I didn't plan a post, I mean this has been written in my agenda for a good two weeks. I just never got around to writing it and then today things got busy. I should begin by informing you that I signed up for the Blogilates Dietbet, because 1) I need to eat healthier and 2) ever since I stopped going to barre in January, I stopped working out. Well no, I took a bunch of different classes at the gym, but I decided I hated every single one. Reason 3) would be that I don't feel happy with my body anymore. I feel sore and tired and sick every day and it's just not something that makes me happy. I used to be really fantastic about eating healthy and working out, but then when I started college it all went downhill, fast. So now I'm starting over with the dietbet and I've been at it for four days.
So why did I have a difficult day? Well, I went grocery shopping this morning and in the process I bought a ton of chocolate for the little Valentine's Day care packages I'm sending out to my closest internet friends. Except, I ended up eating SO MUCH CHOCOLATE as I sat here putting them together. So then I spent the whole day feeling like a giant failure. But it's just chocolate, and I mean as soon as I post this I'm going to go work out for an hour and a half, so I shouldn't be that worried, but I am anyway. It's just a giant spiral of negative feelings. Anyway, I'm going to keep going with the dietbet and I'm going to meet my goal. With that said, this post is supposed to be about this pretty little copper top.
I made this shirt clear all the way back in November. It was the day I got laid off from work and I was sobbing on my bedroom when I came to the realization that I had the four hours I would have been at work free to do whatever I wanted and that instead of crying I could be creative. So I grabbed this knit from my stash (I believe it's from Girl Charlee) and I adapted a pattern I had drafted for a short little dress in June. Then an hour after I would have been back from work, I had this shirt done and ready to be worn and I wasn't crying anymore. It was one of those moments when I realized that I'm capable of doing more than I expect of myself most times.
As for the photoshoot, we did it last week, on a Saturday night and I swear half the town must have driven by and seen me and wondered why. I feel like this shirt is better suited for Fall than spring, since the color reminds me of the trees in the Fall. I styled it with some darker wash jeggings from American Eagle and my favorite floppy hat from Forever 21. As for jewelry, my ring is vintage from an antique store in Nashville called Pangaea, and my necklace is Free People from a year ago. I'm also wearing my fox socks from Taylor (we have matching socks and I'm still stoked about it), which I was supposed to take off for the photoshoot but I refused because I LOVE socks more than any other accessory in the world. And I'm wearing these lovely booties from Nordstrom. They're Sam Edelman and they might still be available, but I'm not entirely sure.
And finally, I just wanted to remind you that my GoFund Me is still there! And thanks to everyone for all your support. Most recently, Erin, thank you!
Have a lovely weekend!
